Margate Women Put On A Show At Hartsdown Park

By David Hansen

A convincing victory for Margate Women as they beat Bromleians 8-0 at Hartsdown Park in the SECWFL Premier Division! The ‘Gate now sit within seven points of 3rd, with games in hand!

It was the perfect start for Margate, as they took the lead in 23 seconds. Some nice feet by Esmee Kew-Stroud, gave captain, Becca Slevin, the opportunity to slide the ball home at the near post. What a start!

It took Margate until the 26th minute to double their lead. Yet again, it was link up play between Slevin and Kew-Stroud. This time it was Slevin who turned provider, as her cross was tucked away by Kew-Stroud with confidence, making it two.

Just two minutes later, Kew-Stroud found herself through on goal following a run from near the halfway line. It was her 2nd goal of the afternoon, as she slotted her shot into the corner of the net to make it 3-0.

Someone we haven’t mentioned yet is Rebecca Niblett. Nibblett beat the offside trap down the right-hand side, and with plenty of time, she was able to turn her strike high into the centre of the goal to make it 4-0, in the 36th minute.

Margate made it five just moments before half-time. Again, it was Niblett down the right flank with a superb finish, as she put her shot across the ‘keeper and into the side netting, scoring her 2nd of the game.

Following the break, Steph Meek made some changes. Introducing Abbey Duff, Charlotte Scales, Abbey Luby, Ruby Mann and Abbie Greetham. These changes didn’t seem to halt the Blues’ dominance as the ‘Gate continued to put on a clinic.

Luby got herself on the scoresheet as she cut inside from the left, and rifled a shot low into the near corner, which the ‘keeper was unable to keep out, as the ball trickled underneath her and into the net, making it six.

Charlotte Scales got herself involved for Margate’s 7th goal, as a mistake from the ‘keeper allowed her to have an open goal and tap the ball into the empty net.

Eight minutes later it was an unforced error from the Bromleians ‘keeper gave Margate their 8th.

Abbey Duff played a seemingly hopeful cross very high towards the six-yard box from a drop ball. Although the ‘keeper managed to get a touch, she was unable to grasp the ball safely into her arms, giving Scales an opportunity to bundle the ball over the line.

The ref blew the final whistle, taking Margate to 26 points in the league table and now just seven points off Tunbridge Wells Foresters, with two games in hand.

Margate Women are next in action in the SECWFL Premier Division against Parkwood Rangers at Hartsdown Park on the 7th of April, looking to continue this good run.
