Defeat For Margate At Carshalton

Goals from Kwaku Frimpong, Charlie Kennett and Luke Read secured the home-side all three points in a hard-fought match at the War Memorial Sports Ground.

Frimpong fired the hosts ahead after cutting inside Toby Stevenson on the edge of the area, and curing past Harry Seaden, with the outside of his foot just four minutes from the break.

A frustrating one to concede for the ‘Gate having come close on a number of opportunities in the first half.

Steve Cawley would in fact return fire minutes after going one down, guiding Ben Greenhalgh’s cross past Aaron Jones, but the equaliser was soon chalked off for an offside.

Stevenson’s whipped cross evaded Cawley rushing into the box but almost crept in as it cannoned off the near post. Kadell Daniel would also fire over after arriving late at the back post, an effort which was agonisingly close.

After ending the half in such gutting fashion, just four minutes into the second half, our former player Dominic Vose played through Kennett, who slammed the ball into the roof of the net to double the Robins’ lead.

The ‘Gate searched for a way back into the game, but there was simply no way through the resolute Robins, who stood firm amidst a number of searching balls into the box.

All hopes of a comeback were eventually put to bed after Greenhalgh’s pockets were picked and Oluwabunmi Babajide had an easy pass to Read to slot the ball into the net.

A frustrating afternoon for the ‘Gate to say the least and a scoreline which didn’t really reflect the performance we put it.

Without the suspended Sam Blackman and Tyrone Sterling and Harry Hudson who are still carrying injuries from Hashtag it was always going to be a tough game for us.

With Fyn Rutherford and Lewis Knight taking the defensive duos’ place in the lineup, our bench was made up of three outfield members from our U23’s squad. Chidubem Ede, Luis Hoxha and Nathan Geddes were given spots on the bench today with Ede and Hoxha earning minutes late in the game.

The ‘Gate will look for a quick turnaround against Enfield Town this Saturday back at Hartsdown Park.
