The Blues named the same starting eleven as the one that drew 1-1 on Saturday to force last night’s replay with the only exception of Scott Donnelly replacing Nikki Bull on the bench.
Margate slowly got into the game and saw their first effort fly wide as Kane Rowland headed Harry Phipps cross well wide. The Blues then forced another chance straight after as Jermaine Osei flashed a low cross along the six yard box, however it evaded everyone and rolled out to safety.
Margate continued to create chances as Rowland fired a long range effort goalwards which flew wide before Ryan Richefond saw his long range effort fly just inches wide of the post.
The visitors continued to pepper the East Thurrock goal as Osei saw his 25 yard curling free kick comfortably saved before Rowland wasted another chance as he failed to get his shot away when perfectly placed.
Another Osei effort which was superbly saved was followed by a let off for the Blues as Higgins smashed the ball off the underside of the bar in the 45th minute.
Margate started the second half slowly and could have fallen behind in the opening minute as Sam Higgins raced through and saw his effort superbly saved by the outstretched hand of Pajetat.
Higgins wasted another chance moments later as he blasted over from just a few yards as East Thurrock United looked increasingly likely to open the scoring. The hosts got their reward in the 57th minute as Tom Wraight headed home from a deep cross.
Margate responded with another effort as Victor Adeboyejo was slipped through by the returning Donnelly but his effort was well saved.
The on-loan striker then missed a glorious opportunity as his glancing header from Donnelly’s cross went just inches wide as the Blues missed their chance to equalise.
Defeat was confirmed in the 89th minute as Sam Higgins turned and fired an effort into the top corner past the outstretched hand of Pajetat.
Margate continue their League campaign on Saturday 3rd December 2016 as they face Maidenhead United away with kick off at 3pm.
