The visitors raced out of the traps and could have taken an early lead as Charles Banya saw his low cross evade everyone in the box in the opening minute of the game. In form Welling Striker Adam Coombes forced the hosts’ first chance on six minutes but his fierce effort was blocked by the outstretched leg of Brett Johnson.
Despite a few half chances which come to nothing, Margate fell behind on 17 minutes as Harry Crawford was played through before calmly firing past Pajetat in the corner of the net to give the Wings a 1-0 advantage.
Jackson, who joined the Blues on a 28 day loan before the game had a half chance before the home side doubled their lead on 25 minutes as Sean Francis unleashed a 25 yard strike which crept past the diving hand of Pajetat and nestled in the bottom corner.
It took just five more minutes for Welling to effectively kill the game off as George Oakley crashed a shot past Pajetat and with 30 minutes gone Margate found themselves 3-0 down.
Adam Coombes should have made it 4-0 just minutes later but he somehow managed to head over from close range when it looked easier to score. Margate were offered a glimmer of hope on 45 minutes as on-loan Jackson beautifully turned home a Tommy Cooney cross to reduce the arrears to 3-1 at Half-Time.
If the goal before the break was meant to inspire Margate unfortunately it didn’t and they fell further behind shortly after the break as a Welling cross was deflected home by a Margate head to compound a miserable day in torrential weather in Kent.
Welling saved their best until last as Adam Coombes netted his 29th goal of the season completing a 15 pass team move before slotting the ball under the advancing Pajetat.
Margate will look to bounce back on Saturday 7th January as they welcome basement side Bishops Stortford to Hartsdown Park, kick off at 3pm.
