Gate Suffer Defeat Away At Enfield
Margate suffered a disappointing defeat as they were beaten by high flying Enfield Town 4-0 at the Queen Elizabeth stadium on Saturday afternoon in the Isthmian Premier Division.
Margate again started with on-loan goalkeeper Billy Johnson as Ben Bridle-Card continues to recover from a thigh injury. Harrison Hatfull also led the line whilst midfielder Benas Valvada made his league debut as the Blues went in search of a win that would have narrowed the gap to the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs.
The visitors started the better as Sam Blackman saw his header whistle over the bar before James Bessey-Saldanha saw his effort curl wide of the Enfield goal in the 14th minute.
Despite the positive start, Margate were forced to start defending their own goal as Mo Faal looked to probe the visitors goal but saw his poked effort go narrowly wide. Margate knew beforehand that Faal and Jake Cass would be a danger ahead of the game and were punished in the 37th minute as a long throw into the box was punched out by Johnson but only to the feet of Faal who slotted the ball home to give the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead.
Margate knew they would have to improve in the second half if they were get anything from the game, however their chances were further hampered in the 52nd minute as a mix up in the visitor’s box allowed the other Enfield danger man Cass to simply roll the ball into an empty net.
The Blues reacted with Montel Agyemang looking to force something with a mazy run into the box, however his low cross was kept out by the Enfield defence who would be celebrating a third goal just five minutes later as Faal showed composure to calmly slot past Johnson to make it 3-0 to Enfield.
Disappointingly for Margate there was no comeback and it looked like Enfield would only extend their lead further as Faal saw a smart header saved by Johnson before the hosts and Faal secured a great afternoon as the striker claimed his hat-trick from 12 yards to send Margate home suffering a 4-0 loss.
