INTERVIEW / Rogers Returns To Starting Eleven
Rogers Returns To Starting Eleven
Margate midfielder James Rogers slotted back into the starting eleven with seamless ease on Wednesday evening.
Playing a pivotal hand in The Gate’s clean-sheet against promotion chasers Lewes, after four months out injured, Rogers’ impact in the middle of the park was applauded by the Margate management team and supporters alike.
Speaking after the game, Rogers expressed his delight at being back involved with the squad.
“It’s been a long time since my last 90 minutes but I loved being back out there and amongst it with the boys. It was a tough but enjoyable game. I thought we were the better team 11 v 11 and we dug deep when we needed to and got a decent point.”
“It’s been hard to watch on the side lines and unable to help the team out during tougher spells. There are some young players who have played a lot of minutes and I’m hoping my experience can help us out again. I’m just happy to be back and getting a full game under my belt already.”
Reflecting on the match itself, Rogers hopes it can prove a turning point in Margate’s season.
“This league is really close and if you can put some results together you can climb up quite quickly. Anyone can beat anyone and you’re never quite sure how other results are going to go but we have to focus on ourselves.”
“We know we’ve not shown the quality we’ve got in the squad with some of our results. It doesn’t help with injuries and people playing with niggles but we need to put the work in and show what we are about with our results.”
Rogers should make a return to Hartsdown Park on Saturday afternoon as Margate prepare for another tough game.
“I’m looking forward to playing back there. Leatherhead is always a tough game but we can go into it with positives from Wednesday. I’m hoping to get more minutes under my belt and points to go with it.”
