Girls Academy Ambassador Unveiled

Following the launch of our full-time Girls Academy earlier this year, Margate FC are delighted to take another positive step by announcing that Harriet Woolston, current Women’s First Team striker, will take up the role of ambassador for the Academy.

Harriet chose the post 16 football academy route for herself during her education and knows first-hand what can be achieved as she went on to gain a first-class honours degree.

Harriet is passionate about both women’s football and Margate FC and is the perfect role model for aspiring players and young people in education.

Following her brace against Maidstone United on Sunday afternoon, we caught up with Harriet to discuss the Girls Academy, The Gate’s recent run of form and the positive vision for the future.

“When we played Maidstone earlier in the season at Hartsdown Park, we had lots of chances and were disappointed with the draw.”

“On Sunday I think a point each was fair. They had a lot of chances and our defence and Lauren did really well to keep us in the game but at the other end we were unlucky too.”

Notching another two goals, Harriet is a striker on form with ambitions set firmly on firing Margate up the football pyramid.

“Obviously being a striker, I love scoring goals and sitting as top goal scorer in the League is something I am proud of but at the moment the focus is on coming second in the league and getting promotion, any goal I can score to help us do that is great.”

Harriet was recently approached by the club to take up the role as ambassador and it is clear she shares a passion to promote opportunities for female footballers.

“When I left school, I went to a football academy run by the same people who are now in charge of the Margate Academy.”

“It was a great experience for me and along with developing my football I went onto achieve an academic scholarship at University, so I'm proud to be an ambassador! The academy is one of the best choices I ever made, there are so many options afterwards so I definitely recommend it.”

Harriet added, “Margate is the most supportive club I have ever played for and the facilities are better than any team we play against. Evan does a great job managing the team and we are a very welcoming group of ladies.”

Looking ahead to Margate’s next fixture, Harriet and her team-mates welcome Anchorians to Hartsdown Park for another crunch fixture.

“We drew with Anchorians in pre-season but they are mid-table and we have strengthened as a team a lot since then. It is a game we want to win and we can't afford to drop points at this stage of the season.”

“It is always nice to have Margate supporters watching us. We have six games left and we expect to win all six and push into the Premier Division, so please come and cheer us on!”
