Ben Swift Departs Margate FC

Margate FC can confirm that Captain Ben Swift has left the club to pursue an opportunity at a higher level in football.

25-year old Swift joined the Blues in March 2017 as a 19-year old under former Manager Steve Watt, after spells at Maidstone United and Premier League side Aston Villa.

Swift has gone onto be an integral part of the club, and was handed the captains armband by Manager Jay Saunders.

On leaving the club, Swift said: “It wasn’t an easy decision but I would kick myself if I didn’t make this choice to pursue a career at a higher level”.

“It has been an incredible five years with plenty of ups and downs. For me, being made captain at the age of 22 at a big club like Margate was the proudest moment”.

Despite losing the League Cup final to Horsham in April, Swift says that evening will also be remembered fondly.

“The result wasn’t what we wanted but it was a great run and a great occasion”.

After forging a strong relationship with the ‘Gate fans, Swift had a farewell message for the fans.

“I just want to thank them for their support over the years. The club is in a great position so keep supporting and getting behind everyone”.

Manager Jay Saunders paid tribute to Swift, who leaves the club in search of a new opportunity.

“It is disappointing to lose a player of Ben’s ability, passion and character. Ben has been an incredible servant to this football club over these past five years”.

“He deserves this opportunity to try and play at the highest level he can, and we wish him all the best for the future, but I speak on behalf of everyone at this football club in saying that he is welcome back at Hartsdown Park whenever he likes”.

Everyone at Margate FC wishes Ben all the best for his future endeavours and look forward to welcoming back to Hartsdown Park in the future.

Thanks Skipper
