Chatham Town (A) - 2nd August 2022

By Josh Cole

Margate will travel to Chatham Town for their latest fixture of this pre-season campaign and second away game in a week.

The ‘Gate come off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of local rivals Ramsgate in the 2022 Isle of Thanet Cup.

Following the defeat, here’s what manager Andy Drury had to say. “ I was disappointed to lose 2-1, I thought in the first half hour we were the better team, we was playing some good football, and then we stopped what was getting us success in the first half hour, we stopped moving the ball quickly, took too many touches and they had a couple of breaks which was a bit of a wakeup call for us, I said at half time, we need to get back to what we were doing in the first 30 minutes, then they (Ramsgate) scored in the first minute of the second half which I thought was very unprofessional from us at our level”

Coming off the back of the defeat, Margate will be without defender Peter Ojemen (bruised leg) and midfielder Montrell Deslandes (Suspended).

Chatham Town finished last season in second place in the SCEFL Premier, enjoying a successful season finishing on 100 points and only two points behind league winners Sheppey United, and in turn getting promoted to the Isthmian League South East.

Chatham have had a busy pre-season so far playing several fixtures and the results are as follows: Lordswood (2-3 L), Stanway Rovers (1-1 D), Punjab United (2-1 L), Rochester United (0-6 W), Ebbsfleet United (0-1 L), Waltham Abbey (3-2 W), Welling Town (7-2 W), Welling United (1-4 L), Gillingham (0-3 L), Canterbury City (1-1 D), Dartford (1-1 D), Bromley (5-3 W).

Kick-off is at 19:45 with tickets being priced at £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, and £2 for U16’s.
