Taylor’s Stoppage Time Stunner Sinks The Fleet
Margate shocked league leaders Ebbsfleet United, as Lewis Taylor’s injury time goal secured a 2-1 win.
The midfielder, fresh off of a hat-trick last time out, bent the ball home from just outside the right hand side of the box to hand Nikki Bull his fifth victory in seven matches.
Kane Wills had earlier put the Blues ahead after only ten minutes, only for Danny Kedwell to strike back a minute after the break.
Margate had to reshuffle the pack, with Brett Johnson and Luke Moore replacing Sam Rents and Matt Johnson, but it didn’t affect their confidence as they started the game on the front foot.
After Brett Johnson saw a dangerous header across goal just cleared inside the first few minutes, Wills gave his team the lead. Freddie Ladapo burst down the left wing and pulled the ball back perfectly to the playmaker 10 yards out, who comfortably side footed the ball home.
Ladapo frightened ‘Fleet’s defence throughout and was inches away from grabbing a second midway through the first half, only to hit the side netting after twisting past multiple challenges.
Ebbsfleet struggled for openings but found an equaliser seconds after the break as a cross wasn’t cleared and was eventually slammed home by Kedwell.
The burly striker shot well on the turn ten minutes later, only to find Chris Lewington solid at his near post, holding his shot well.
Before his stunning winner, Taylor came close to regaining Margate’s lead on 67 minutes, hitting a firm shot from the edge of the box that was pushed wide by Brandon Hall, diving to his left.
Matt Godden looked to have broken clear of Margate’s defence only to be brilliantly denied by substitute Sam Rents and then shot inches wide of the target from range.
Ladapo tormented the hosts again, beating numerous players, before flashing a shot fiercely over the bar, as the Blues pushed for a late winner.
Taylor grabbed that very goal in the 91st minute and the end of a sustained spell of pressure. Nathan Green burst down the left and his dipping shot was tipped away but the ball was recycled out to the right, where Taylor curled the ball beautifully into the far corner past a flapping Hall.
