Experienced Kasim Joins The 'Gate

We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Yaser Kasim until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Kasim joins the club with Football League experience having played over 100 times for Swindon Town, as well as a short period of time with Northampton. Kasim started his career with Fulham youth before making the switch to Tottenham.

After leaving Spurs, Kasim joined Brighton where he was a team mate alongside current Blues assistant manager Ben Greenhalgh. 31 year-old Kasim then found regular football at Swindon where he featured 122 times before moving onto Northampton.

Kasim started the 2022/23 season with National League South side Welling United, before joining Gloucester City where he only featured once before leaving.

As well as his fantastic club career to date, Kasim is an Iraq full international having played 21 times for his country, netting three times in his international career.

Assistant Manager Greenhalgh was delighted to capture the services of Kasim for the remainder of the season. “We’ve been talking to Yaser since we first came in and now the opportunity has arisen that he is available.”

“I played with Yaser when we were both at Brighton and he is one of the best midfielders I’ve ever played with, he went on to become Swindon’s most influential player in League One and we’re buzzing to be able to get him in with us now. He trained last night and just his presence increased the intensity of the session and already I can’t wait for us as a team to bounce off his experience.”
