Stannard pleased with Gate start

With a number of Under 23 players presented a starting opportunity by first team-manager Steve Watt, young striker Harry Stannard took the chance with both hands, grabbing a brace to make sure Margate overcame their neighbours.

Having scored three goals in two starts, Stannard is pleased with how the beginning of his Margate career has kicked-off.

Speaking after the game, Stannard said;

“It’s been a good start. Being young, coming into the team and playing at this level, I’ve just been trying my best to make my presence felt. It’s nice to score three goals in two competitions, whether it’s the League or a cup game.”

“The first was a nice chip, the second was probably a better strike and I should have got a third at the end which would have killed the game off, but I’ll take my two!”

Having joined The Blues from Hastings United, there’s a step up in standard across the board, but it’s one the youngster relishes.

“I’ve not started a game in the League yet but from the side-lines it does look a better standard. Less goals are conceded at either end and it’s harder to score but hopefully I can have my chance soon and take it.”

Stannard is keen to utilise any minutes to impress the Margate management and admitted cup competitions provide the perfect platform to do so.

“I’m hoping that by playing in competitions, it gives me a chance to shine and I’m doing all I can. So hopefully it reaps it rewards and I’m in with an opportunity of starting on Saturday.”

Looking ahead to this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup trip to Kings Langley, Stannard revealed the squad are keen to keep their winning run in all competitions going and will be well prepared to do so.

“I think we’ve had them watched and the Gaffer will have a plan for how he wants to approach Saturday.

“We’ll work on that on Thursday evening at training, making sure we’re as prepared as possible going into the game on Saturday with every focus on progressing to the next round.”

Harry is looking for an away kit sponsor. Could that sponsor, be you? Please contact charlotte.richardson@margate-fc.co.uk or call 01843 221769 for more information.
