Blues Beat Haringey in Six Goal Thriller

By Tom Morris

Margate welcomed Haringey Borough to Hartsdown Park in the Isthmian Premier League and after a thoroughly entertaining match claimed all three points winning 4-2.

The ‘Gate started brightly with the forward line of Reeves, Ramadan and Daniel linking nicely and stretching the ‘Boro defence. Reeves saw a header (3) and shot (11) saved by Miles returing to HDP after being released in October before Daniel fired a free kick under the wall but wide of the post. Our first goal came after 22 minutes from the boot of skipper Ben Swift who volleyed home a Kieran Monlouis cross after a period of pressure down the left-hand channel. Swifty almost scored a second 2 minutes later when he connected with a Ramadan corner but put his effort over the bar!

The second goal came in the 28th minute as Kadell Daniel was played in on goal by Ramadan and fired his effort passed Miles and into the corner of the goal. Que his salute to the crowd as he celebrated his 12th goal of the season across all competitions. McDonald threatened briefly for Haringey with a surging run and cross into the box on 32 minutes but it was Margate who were celebrating again as Reeves tapped home a Monlouis cross with the help of a dummy / deflection from Daniel in the 37th minute, 3-0 Margate and that s how the sides would go in for the half time break.

The second half started with a long cross field ball from Abnett who picked out the run of Reeves only for Miles to save his shot and deny the inform striker another goal. In the 52nd minute Tommy Lamb replaced Chris Sessegnon who took a knock and as Margate reshuffled at the back Anthos Solomou was allowed too much space in the box to pick his spot and make the score 3-1.

Our visitors halved the deficit and set up a nervy final 15 minutes when Tupper brought down Percil in the box and the striker got up to convert the penalty; calmly shooting down the centre of the goal. 3-2 Margate.

Luckily for the ‘Gate as Haringey pushed forward for an equaliser Reeves, Daniel and Ramadan were able to threaten on the counter attack and from a corner in the 92nd minute with Miles up field Ramadan broke free and fed Monlouis who out sprinted the recovering defenders and slotted home to score our fourth goal of the game and secure all three points for Jay Saunders’s side.

Margate: Tupper, Sessegnon (Lamb 52’), Porter, Prestedge, Friend, Swift ©, Ramadan, Monlouis, Reeves, Daniel (Leighton 90’), Abnett.

Subs: Kallmeier, Robins, Geddes.
