Tooting & Mitcham v Margate

Margate make the trip to Tooting & Mitcham this evening (Tuesday) looking to close the gap on the top five in the Bostik Premier League.

Saturdays 2-0 win away at Lowestoft Town saw the Blues close the gap on the top five to just five points although the ‘Gate do have two games in hand on teams around them.

The Blues are able to welcome back Jack Evans to the side after he served a one game suspension in the win over Lowestoft for collecting five yellow cards but Lee Prescott could keep his place after impressing.

Chris Sessegnon is likely to still be missing with a knee injury although Tom Wynter could return to the side after being named a substitute last week after injuring his hamstring at Merstham two weeks ago.

Tooting & Mitcham have endured a difficult start to the season and find themselves 21st in the division with the worst goal difference, however they will be buoyed by the fact that they earnt a fine 3-2 victory over Kingstonian on Saturday.

The Blues will consider Tooting & Mitcham as their bogey side having never won away against them, even in the season the hosts were relegated having collected one point in their final 13 games, which came against Margate in a 1-1 draw.

Kick-off is 7:45pm but as always if you can’t be there then you can stay right up to date on the clubs official Twitter feed @margate_fc from 7:15pm.

Blues In Control as Tooting Brushed Aside

Margate extended their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions as they overcome Tooting & Mitcham with relative ease on Tuesday evening.

The ‘Gate were forced into a late change as Lenny Pidgeley was taken ill on the way to the game meaning Patrick Lee deputised in goal whilst Manager Steve Watt was able to call upon Jack Evans at right back after serving a one game suspension.

Margate were relentless in the opening stages and raced into a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes. It was the hosts who tested Lee early on but the young shot stopper was equal to it.

The Blues went ahead in the 8th minute as Liam Friend played a long ball forward which looked to be drifting out of play before Frannie Collin superbly caught up with the ball before superbly crossed to Jordan Chiedozie who took out of the sky before slamming it home to the give the ‘Gate a 1-0 advantage.

1-0 soon become 2-0 as Chiedozie doubled his tally in the 20 minute as another long ball forward from Friend found Chiedozie who raced forward before cutting inside and driving the ball into the far bottom corner.

Kane Haysman nearly got in on the action as he saw his flicked header from Evans cross well collected by the host’s keeper. Tooting & Mitcham started the second half looking to get back straight in the game with Wedgeworth hitting a fierce drive which struck Tom Mills at close range which led to the hosts appealing for a penalty which was rightly waived away.

Margate extended their lead in the 64th minute as Chiedozie again chased down what looked like a lost cause before crossing for Haysman who netted with his head to give the Blues a 3-0 advantage. The visitors saw Lee Prescott shave the bar with a fierce shot which almost made it 4-0 immediately.

Tooting & Mitcham did grab a consolation goal in the first minute of added time as a corner was swung in and initially cleared but the hosts reacted quickest and managed to stab the ball home past Lee to make it 3-1.

MARGATE: Lee, Evans, Mills, Rogers, Friend, Swift, Haysman, Prescott, Chiedozie (Enver-Marum 75’), Collin, Martin (Bodkin 69’)

Subs Not Used: May, Wynter

Attendance: 160
