Hythe Town FC

Margate’s busy start to the 2018/19 season continues on Tuesday evening as they take on Hythe Town in the Kent Senior Cup with a scheduled kick off at 7:45pm.

It’s the first round of the county’s most historic competition and a tough trip to Reachfields Stadium to face the Bostik League South East side awaits.

The hosts have enjoyed a successful start to the season with impressive victories against Ashford United and East Grinstead and will pose a tough test for The Gate.

Management duo Steve Brown and Mike Sandmann are expected to give opportunity to a number of the club’s promising young Under 23s players, whilst providing valuable minutes to players pushing for a first-team start.

Gate Exit Kent Senior Cup

Margate travelled to Hythe on Tuesday evening with a mix of under 23 players and first teamers for the opening round of the Kent Senior Cup,

From the first whistle, Hythe Town played a high tempo pressing game and got in behind The gaTE defence on several occasions.

After 13 minutes, Nigel Neita swept home the opening goal of the night after a fast break away down the left flank,

This early goal acted as a wake up call for the Gate players and on 20 minutes Ollie Boulding sent a long ball over the top, down the right channel to Aristide Bassele who latched onto the ball, skilfully beat the full back and chipped the on-rushing goal keeper to level the game.

The remainer of the first half was a scrappy affair with both teams trading possession. Hythe looked the more likely to score and Henry Newcombe was forced into several good saves,.

The second half saw several changes as Akanni Omutunmise and Billy Lewis replaced Mitch Laing and Baselle Astride.

Hythe looked the more composed team on the ball and took the lead in the 78th minute when Ryan Palmer curled a shot into the top corner.

Zak Ansah made sure of the victory when he headed a deflected cross home from five yards in the 84th minute.

Samson Maagbe and Marshall Taderera both had chances in the last ten minutes but failed to trouble George Kamurasi in the Hythe goal and the game finished 3-1.

Attention now turns to the first of our Bank Holiday weekend fixtures as we welcome Tonbridge Angels to Hartsdown Park on the 25th August, kick off is at 15:00.
