Margate v Brightlingsea Regent

Margate welcome Brightlingsea Regent to Hartsdown Park tonight (Tuesday) as they look to close the gap further on the Bostik Premier League play off places.

The ‘Gate will be eager to get back on the pitch after Saturdays fixture away at Kingstonian fell foul to the freezing weather meaning they haven’t played a league game since their 3-2 win over Hendon on the 9th December.

Brightlingsea Regent are enjoying their first season in the Bostik Premier League after winning promotion last season and currently sit 12th in the division after an impressive 2-2 draw against high flying Staines on Saturday despite being 2-0 down.

Margate are still without Lenny Pidgeley who has been given compassionate leave while Chris Sessegnon remains side-lined with a knee injury.

Three points for Margate tonight would see them climb to 7th in the division but just one point off the play-off places depending on other results in the division. It will be the ‘Gate’s 20th league match of the season which will mean they have four games in hand over some of their nearest competitors.

Kick off at Hartsdown Park is 7:45pm but as always if you can’t be there then you can stay right up to date on the clubs official Twitter feed @margate_fc from 7:15pm.

Blues March On With Impressive Win

Margate fought back from a goal down to overcome Brightlingsea Regent 4-2 at Hartsdown Park which extended the ‘Gate’s unbeaten run in the Bostik Premier League to nine games.

The Blues were slow out of the traps and fell behind in the 16th minute as a long range free kick was spilt by Patrick Lee allowing Billy Hunter to poke the ball home from close range on the follow up.

It was proving to be an uninspiring first half from the home side as they failed to breakdown a resolute back line from Brightlingsea, although they could have been level just before half time as Frannie Collin saw his shot well saved before Jay May saw his follow up save by the visitors keeper face to give the visitors their 1-0 lead at half-time.

If the first half wasn’t Margate’s best performance then the second was a complete contrast as the Blues raced out of the traps and were level in the 50th minute as Ben Swift rose highest from a corner to level the scores.

Four minutes later the Blues were in front as a smart through ball unleashed Frannie Collin who struck the ball low and hard past the visitor’s keeper to turn the game on its head. The Blues looked in cruise control but were pegged back by the visitors as Aaron Condon took advantage of some hesitant defending to slide home an equaliser and make it 2-2.

But as we have seen on many occasions this season Margate weren’t to lay down and forced their way back in front after some neat work down the right saw a low cross fall to Jay May who slammed the ball home to restore the home sides lead.

The best was saved to last though as substitute Jordan Chiedozie collected the ball at an angle 20 yards out before waltzing through four Brightlingsea Regent Defenders before sliding the ball home in the far corner to complete a fantastic turnaround for the ‘Gate.

The win leaves Margate 8th in the Bostik Premier League, however they do have up to four games in hand on their play-off rivals.

MARGATE: Lee, Fox (Evans 82’), Wynter, Rogers, Friend, Swift, Haysman (Chiedozie 65’), Prescott, May (Enver-Marum 85’), Collin, Martin

Subs Not Used: Bodkin, Bray

Attendance: 363
