Blues Bow Out Of Cup Against Bromley

Margate’s run in the Kent Senior Cup came to an end on Tuesday night as they put in a valiant display despite losing 2-1 against National League Bromley in freezing condition at Hayes Lane.

Manager Steve Watt used the game to try a large contingent of Development players with Matt Bodkin, Patrick Lee, Liam Enver-Marum and Nathan Fox the only first team squad players that featured.

The young Blues impressed though against their counterparts two divisions above them who boasted several first team players including Luke Wanadio, Ben Chorley and Brett Williams.

The hosts had the majority of the ball and were testing Lee in the Blues goal but his display coupled with some resolute defending meant the sides went in at the break all square.

It took the hosts another 20 minutes of the second half to eventually break down the impressive Margate back four as substitute Anderson latched onto a Williams cutback to put the hosts ahead.

The Blues weren’t to fold in though and got themselves level just four minutes later as some neat work down the right saw a delightful ball played across the box where Bodkin was at hand to head home at the back stick to make it 1-1 with 20 minutes to play.

Unfortunately for Margate they couldn’t hold on for the penalty shootout that they deserved as Brett Williams used his strength to push through one on one with Lee and he made no mistake from 10 yards.

Margate pushed for an equaliser but it wasn’t to be and it was Bromley who progressed to the Semi-Finals.

MARGATE: Lee, Killick, Fox, Hume, Fitchett, Bray, Bodkin, Rudd, Warden, Enver-Marum, O’Halloran

Subs: Lindsey, Ikeije, Priddle, Ford, Frimpong
