The hosts who were looking to close the gap between themselves and the play-off places raced out of the traps and took the lead within five minutes as Andy Watkins slammed the ball home after Valery Pajetat parried Marvin Morgan’s fierce effort straight to the advancing midfielder.
On loan Reading Midfielder Harrison Bennett made a bright start to his Margate career as he forced a couple of half opportunities for the Blues as they slowly found their feet, however the away side were dealt a hammer blow on 25 minutes as Watkins again smashed home a parried effort to extend the hosts lead to 2-0.
Margate were struggling to deal with the strength of Marvin Morgan up front for Bath City but it was their own Dean Morgan who had their closest chance of the first half as his 30 yard volley fizzed just wide as Margate continued to battle in hope of rescuing something from the game.
Bull’s side started the second half much brighter and had the ball in the net just minutes into the second half but Dean Morgan’s effort was ruled out by the linesman’s flag for an offside decision which looked very tight.
Margate continued to pressure the Bath City goal with Ben Swallow and Morgan forcing the home keeper into more saves as the Gate looked to reduce the arrears. Bath continued to look dangerous on the counter attack and they almost extended their lead in the 70th minute as a fierce shot cannoned back off the cross bar and away to safety.
Defeat leaves Margate eight points from safety and with no fixture this weekend due to Chelmsford City’s continued involvement in the FA Trophy, the Blues next fixture is Saturday 11th February 2017 away to Hampton & Richmond.
