Margate fell to their third straight defeat in the Vanarama National League South as they were defeated 4-2 by Hampton & Richmond at Hartsdown Park.
The Blues made two changes from their defeat at Wealdstone on Saturday with Marcel Barrington and Alex Osborn returning to the starting eleven in place of Matthew Johnson and Brett Johnson.
Margate took the lead in the 19th minute as Elliott Buchanan scored his first League goal as he nestled the ball into the bottom corner from 25 yards leaving Billy Bishop rooted to the spot.
Buchanan looked lively after his goal and tried an outrageous effort moments later as he spun on the half way line and volleyed an effort goalwards spotting Bishop off his line but it flew just wide of the post.
Hampton had the ball in the net in the 42nd minute but it was ruled out as the referee judged that Ward had both hands on the ball when Lowe kicked it and it remained 1-0 at the break.
Nikki Bull was forced into making two half-time substitutions as both Barrington and Osborn were forced off with injury being replaced by Adam Cash and Michael Thalassitis.
Thalassitis almost doubled the Blues lead as he snapped a shot goalwards which was well handled by Bishop.
Hampton started to improve as the second half went on and they equalised in the 64th minute as Lowe found himself in space out wide
before rasping a low effort goalwards which squirmed underneath Ward to level the score.
The equaliser spurred the visitors on and they were in front nine minutes later as Brendan Kiernan raced clear of the Margate back line and finished past Ward.
2-1 become 3-1 just minutes later as a corner into the box was nodded down to the feet of former Margate Striker Christian Jolley who passed the ball into the empty net to extend the visitors lead.
Margate were straight back into it a minute later as Thalassitis headed home a Scott Donnelly corner to give the Blues fans hope that they might be able to earn an unexpected point, however those hopes were dashed in the final minute as Nicke Kabamba lashed home from eight yards to make it 4-2 and send the ‘Gate to a third straight defeat.
Margate continue their Vanarama National League South campaign on Saturday as they travel to the South coast to face newly promoted Poole Town.
