Nikki Bull gave a debut to new loanee Defender Nathan Fox from Brentford and Tarik Moore-Azille, while also welcoming back Lewis Taylor after suspension and Scott Donnelly from injury. Bull also persisted with Alfie Foster and Brett Johnson at centre-half.
Maidenhead continued to threaten as Sean Marks raced through but saw his effort fly over the bar before the League’s top goalscorer Dave Tarpey saw a fine low effort fantastically saved by Valery Pajetat.
The hosts took the lead on 30 minutes as Marks raced through and slammed past Pajetat to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead.
Maidenhead continued to attack the Gate and should have doubled their lead just minutes later as Tarpey missed a half chance before being denied by the excellent Pajetat who dived at the feet of Tarpey to keep the score at 1-0.
1-0 was soon to become 2-0 on the 39th minute as 21 goal hero Dave Tarpey stole the ball off the toe of Alfie Foster and raced through before smashing the ball past Pajetat from a tight angle. It wasn’t just damage to the score line for the Blues though as Foster was then stretched off with a nasty looking foot injury.
Margate started the second half a lot better with Donnelly and Adeboyejo seeing half chances test Carl Petney in the Maidenhead goal but again it was the hosts that come closest to extending their lead Kieron Forbes smashed the ball against the underside of the bar as Margate escaped another let off.
Nathan Fox shot high and wide from 20 yards as Margate failed to test Petney, however it was Tarpey and Maidenhead who looked more likely to extend their lead as the hosts remained nine points clear at the top while Margate remain just one place above the relegation drop zone.
