However, two goals in three minutes early in the second half from Josh Passley and Glen Southam put pay to his plans.
Margate started well with Harrison Bennett forcing Lucas Covolan into a smart save inside the opening five minutes.
Danny Mills forced Lewis Ward into a fantastic point blank save after a mix up at the back, before shooting dangerously across goal soon after.
Ward saved well again from Mills minutes later, diving to his left to keep out his long range shot.
Ira Jackson shot narrowly over the far angle having collected Chris Sessegnon’s fantastic cross field ball and jinking inside, as the first half finished goalless.
Passley broke the deadlock 12 minutes into the second half though, waltzing in from the right touchline and finding the far corner with a shot through a crowd of players.
Margate freshened their line up as Josseff Morrell, on for his debut, and Jerson Dos Santos made their way onto the field only to see Whitehawk double their lead minutes later. Ibby Akanbi turned in the box and pulled the ball back to Southam who smashed home from close range.
Ward made another good save from Mike West late on after an almighty scramble and although Margate finished strongly with numerous dangerous balls flying across Whitehawk’s box they couldn’t find the net and fell to a 17th consecutive defeat.
