Owen who is a Director of the successful Pace Academy is also currently the coach of the Chelsea Foundation U19’s at Sandwich Technology College thinks Margate has huge potential but admits it will be important that the local community to get behind the Club.
“Our focus now should be on developing a new culture and a sustainable model. Within this model the fans, youth and wider community are key to the success of Margate”.
Owen who joined on Monday after meeting with new co-chairman designate Alistair Bayliss will be assisting the club with the commercial sector as well as focusing on youth player development alongside the good work already being carried out at the club.
“My focus will be to assist in growing the commercial interests of the club but more specifically to target youth football, player pathways and also community engagement. There’s already a lot of good work going on, but I need to examine these particular areas further and help develop them. I’m confident my experience in both business and football can help move the club in the right direction”.
Owen is excited about the challenge but has warned the Margate fans should remain patient while the new board look to restructure the club from top to bottom.
“Please be patient, there’s a lot of work to be done but it’s also an exciting new period for the club. Let’s start by making sure we get behind the team on Saturday! Thank you for your continued support”.
